Great Horned Owl

My Great Horned Owl drawing recalls the many worried nights I spent in the backcountry looking after six young peregrine falcons who were being raised and released to a part of Wyoming their species had long ago vanished from. A Great Horned Owl could wipe out young, inexperienced falcons in one night. I would hear the telltale “hoooo, hoo-hoo, hooo,” and wonder, was it watching us? Eventually I found it and saw it very close. Luckily, those little falcons survived the summer, and today, falcons return to nest in the area each year.
